Watching the Moon Rise, Watch Hill, NY

We walked along the beach, at Watch Hill, Fire Island, and watched the sunset and moon rise.

This is Davis Park after sunset. We walked along the ocean, from Watch Hill to Davis Park for dinner at the "Casino," the restaurant at Davis Park.

It was a wonderful meal, although expensive.

The walk along the ocean was awarded with watching the moon rise.

Definitely needed "Off" to keep the mosquitoes from biting!

It was a wonderful night!

My in-laws spent a few days with us for a nice family visit.

Of course the camera was ready for those candid moments!

Walking on Fire Island to the Pines

Polish Festival in Riverhead

Every year at this time, the town of Riverhead is host to the Polish Festival.

There are vendors and food carts in the street with something for everyone.

It was held this weekend, August 18 & 19.

On Saturday, I saw the traditional wedding ceremony complete with the young bride and groom, the couple's parents, wedding attendants and this young flower girl. Beautiful costumes to complete the tradition, are a must.

The mission is to pass the traditions on to the next generation.

I think it was a success!

Montauk Point

Montauk Point, Long Island

Fog is not unusual....Montauk is at the end of Long Island, away from the mainland, surrounded by water. After all, fog is part of the nautical environment.

Carousel Horse

The carousel has always been a favorite ride for children.

By today's ride standards, it is probably not very exciting or desired, but it is still fun.

Ride the horse and watch the world pass by!

Long Island's Metro NY Balloon & Music Festival

We went early this morning, sunrise actually, to the

Metro NY Balloon & Music Festival,

being held August 10th, 11th & 12th at Brookhaven Calabro Airport.

Unfortunately, a north wind kept the balloons from flying.

As one balloon owner said, "...in this wind, nowhere to go but the ocean!"

It was wonderful to watch the balloons fire up and get ready.

I will tell you that it costs $10 to park and $25 per person to enter.

No coolers allowed but you can bring in a folding chair.

Hot days at the beach

You know those hot, hazy, humid days of summer?

Well, they're here!

We've spent the last few days at the beach, on Fire Island, where it was cool and uncrowded, yet somewhat hazy.

The water was perfect for swimming and cooling off. PERFECT!

The waves were gentle, not large or rough, the water was clear and a "Caribbean" blue, with comfortable temperatures.

It was probably the best few ocean days at the beach all summer.

It doesn't get better than this!
