Still Day 2 of our journey, we travel into NY Harbor, passing huge ships and tugs.
Our 30 ft. sailboat was like "an ant in an elephant parade1"

Liberty and the sailboat

On the second day, as we entered New York Harbor...
The boat traffic was chaotic. There were private boats like this sailboat and ferries and water taxis and tour boats. To make matters worse, Jet Skis were buzzing around with no apparent direction!

Coney Island and Verrazano Bridge

Getting close to NY City, here is the Coney Island Parachute Jump....
Bridge is the Verrazano....

The sea was calm and not great for sailing. There is a holding area for NYC container ships before they get close to the city. These ships are actually anchored here.

Day 2, almost time to hit the ocean...Now to navigate through the Inlet.
Check the map and see that this maneuver needs more light, even with a GPS.

Pre-sunrise, Day 2
The sky changed color as we drank coffee made in the primitive way, camping style.

Pre-dawn Day 2...
Woke up early for an early start. Who could sleep with the anticipation and besides, boat sleeping is not the most comfortable. Not on a boat this size anyway!

Sore Thumb, Long Island

We sailed from Sayville/Bayport on the South Shore, west, in the Great South Bay.
First night anchored in Sore Thumb, near the Fire Island Inlet. Tomorrow the Ocean....

sailing

My husband and I are heading out, going west to NY City by sailboat. It will be quite the adventure but it's one I can't pass up. I probably won't sleep, will be damp and uncomfortable, but how can I pass up the opportunity to sail into Manhattan? Stay tuned for some sailing adventures!

Summer fun!

~~~~~~~~~~
Summer time fun in the pool. Okay, it's only 6 inches deep but that's plenty deep for a one year old!
Hope you all enjoy the great weather and summer fun!
