all tied up
If I don't post as often as I use to post, it's only because life gets busy. I've been tied up like these boats.....

Went to Jones Beach for the Memorial Day air show but the fog and clouds kept the planes/jets on the ground!

This is the time of year when the Beach Peas are blooming on Fire Island. Now, if only it would stop raining!

Weather
Think of the storm roaming the sky uneasily
like a dog looking for a place to sleep in,
listen to it growling.
-Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979), U.S. poet
Living on the river keeps me connected to the changes in weather. A minor drop in temperature, a sudden appearance of clouds, an increase of wind speed....it is always obvious and can't be ignored.
I rarely listen to a weather report. All I have to do is step outside, feel, smell, and experience the air .

Happy Mother's Day!
A remarkable woman.
I've been organizing photos and cleaning off my computer of un-needed files.
Some photos I cannot delete. This of course, is one of them.
This was one of the few professional photos my mother had taken of herself, dated '43. I don't know the occasion, but knowing my parents, some photographer owed my father some money or a favor and did this for free. That's how it was back in the 1940s.
I thought, and still think, my mother was a beautiful lady.
Her personality and spirit matched her good looks, although she never thought she was good-looking. She was so wrong.
She always looked on the positive side. She was strong and intelligent.
She raised five children, worked in the family business, cleaned the house and sewed her own clothes to save the family money.
She never judged people by their religion or ethnic background and raised me and my siblings to feel the same. She always said that there was good and bad in everyone. "Find the good."
What can I say? You go through old photos and it brings up memories, some good, some bad.
This was a good one.

seagulls over the bay
It's wonderful to be back on the Great South Bay. The boat is in the water again for 2012. I just wish the rain would stop!

pink moonrise
Couldn't get a shot of the super-moon last night. This one is from last March, while I was in Florida. This was not altered in any way. The moon was really this large. Check out the car on the street and the boat. Amazing! I would have liked to see the moon this clearly last night, but it just didn't happen!

Saint Ann's Church, Sayville
I'm back home on Long Island and it feels wonderful. It was difficult leaving that summer-like weather in Florida but we returned to a beautiful day. I noticed that the trees are blooming earlier than usual. This cherry tree at St. Ann's Church usually doesn't bloom until the first week of May, but it's already showing flowers! Happy spring everyone and happy Long Island!

The Canal, early morning sunrise
This was taken a few years ago at this time of year. I'm looking forward to returning to my Long Island summer home! I miss the bay, and the boating and Fire Island. Most of all, I miss our grandchildren who we have not seen in quite some time!

Carlin Park, sanderlings
Just like on Long Island. The Sanderlings run from the waves! I'm dreaming of those Long Island beaches, the best in the world.

huge wake
The wake from some boats almost knocks over the smaller boats. I took this shot from a boat and the water is almost over my head. I can't image what happens to the paddle-boarders who are trying to balance!

spanish moss
I love the feeling of the spanish moss growing on these southern trees. As the temperature rises, I know I'm not in NY!

Ruth is visiting us here in Florida. She traveled by plane, with a friend, and loves the warm sunshine. Doesn't she look great for 90?

Daylight Savings Time, 2012
Don't forget to advance the time by one hour.
"Spring ahead, fall behind" should help you remember! We lost the hour but will find it again in autumn.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park
Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Florida.
It was a hot day, already 75 by 9am. It eventually reached 85. This park is the true "old" undeveloped Florida. There are hiking trails, camp sites, and boating (up the Loxahatchee River) and more.

Saw a wild alligator in Jonathan Dickinson State Park today. Couldn't get too close but had my 80-400 lens!

Another paddleboarder. Very popular here in Florida, it must be great exercise; just look at her muscles!

osprey waiting
Went back to see if the osprey was still there. We couldn't see into the nest but a nest is there and this one was waiting patiently for his/her mate. The other osprey arrived with food, left it and flew away.
I do hope I get to photograph some chicks!

The boats here in Palm Beach County are huge! When we go out in our rental "boat club" boat, I feel like an ant in an elephant parade!

Jupiter Lighthouse
Jupiter, Florida
An annual event, couples can go to the top of the lighthouse after it is closed to the general public. Champagne, chocolate and the sunset are all private, (except for the tour guide who is standing nearby!). It's a fund-raiser but gives a romantic evening a new meaning. My husband and I shared the moment by snapping a photo every nano-second. Very romantic??!!

white egret
Finally went out to photograph some birds today. Of course, I forgot to take another lens so I was somewhat limited. I guess I need to recheck my camera gear!
