First garbage-collection day after the holiday. Notice the empty wine cases and the discarded pointsettias. In the past we've saved the plants and tried to get them to bloom again. They never come back the same. The leaves usually fall off and make a mess.
It's wasteful I know, and it makes me sad, but we just throw them out after the New Year.

Like your post...I am a NYC trash collector and its been very busy the last couple of weeks. Had a woman this morning who didn't expect us to throw the seven Christmas trees and two couches into the truck this morning along with the bags that her building had set out.
Happy New Year, Alida!
All of my Christmas plants, including my Christmas tree go into my shredder and become compost. And, I'm just amazed at how little compost a tree becomes--about a bucket full.
Best regards,
Bill
