Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania

 

First week in October on Lake Wallenpaupack in Pennsylvania.

We were hoping for more vibrant autumn colors, but the trees were just beginning to prepare for the winter.

Cool, early morning walks were very much appreciated especially when the lake produced a misty wonderland!

Visit to Ricketts Glenn, Pennsylvania

This past weekend I went to Ricketts Glenn State Park in Pennsylvania to see some of the autumn colors.

This park has beautiful waterfalls and trails for hiking.

I went with my nature photography club, NWPLI (Nature & Wildlife Photographers of Long Island).

It's a great group of people who have a love of nature in common.

Many of the members are award winning photographers and it is my pleasure to be a member of this group.

There are many areas on Long Island to photograph wildlife but this weekend we were on a hunt for color. For Long Island, that will come in about two weeks. Last year, it was October 28th when I took my aerial flight to catch the colors images from the air.

We helped my son move to South Philly this past weekend.

It's difficult to see them go. We packed up his belongings, some items that were his from when he was just 3-4 years old. Ugh!

It wasn't easy.

South Philly was very active and colorful. 

South Street was filled with people walking, shopping, eating. 

It seems to have had a rebirth, something similiar to the rebirth of Brooklyn. 

We walked along South Street, ate a Philly Cheese Steak and checked out Penns Landing.

Not a bad day, but it was difficult to leave my "baby" in another city.

Sullivan House on the lake

The holidays wouldn't be complete without a visit to the in-laws.

My in-laws live in the retirement community of Hershey's Mill, Pennsylvania. 

The Sullivan House, above, is the historic building of the original estate, now used for catered parties. Hershey's Mill is many acres of condos and single family units that are part of the retirement community.

My in-laws love it there. There is the community center with a golf course, restaurants, pool and so much more. The most important feature is a society of people near their age for socializing.
