Rainy days on Long Island

umbrella in Quito

When was the last time we had rain like this?
I can't even remember, but my trees are happy!
The dry summer had some of the trees looking wilted and brown.
I hope this perks them up and prepares them for the winter ahead.

Rainy Days Ahead

umbrella in Quito

I really don't mind the rainy days.
We've had beautiful weather this summer on Long Island. For me it wasn't quite as hot as it has been in the past, which is just fine.

Rainy days give me the chance to catch up on house chores.
There is always something to do at home on a rainy day:
straighten up kitchen cabinets, organize closets, clean out the refrigerator, fix a loose door hinge, file papers... the list is endless!
For dinner I can make a homemade soup and afterwards "binge watch" some old TV series.
That's my idea of a rainy day!

beach diptych

The word "diptych" is a word from another time.
Originally a diptych (pronounced "dip-tick") from the Greek,
is any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge.

From Wikipedia, "Devices of this form were quite popular in the ancient world, types existing for recording notes and for measuring time and direction."

The word has a new use and popularity.
It is the connection of two photos that in some way form one unit, as the photos above.
The photos can be similar, opposites in subject or color, or any connection that seems to fit.

They are fun to create and give photography a new creative edge.
