The town of Patchogue has an annual Boat Parade for the holidays. The big controversy is whether to call it a "Holiday Parade" or the "Christmas Parade." You just can't make everyone happy!

It was a nice night to watch the boats go by with spring-like weather.

Patchogue Village

Patchogue Village, in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, is an incorporated village, located on the south shore of Long Island, between Blue Point on the west and Bellport on the east.

Fifty miles from Manhattan, Patchoque was incorporated in 1893 and in the past 115 years or so has been a busy community. 

The business district has Main Street shopping and restaurants making trips to the large Long Island Malls unnecessary.

The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, at one time a movie theatre, has been fully renovated. The Theatre has live performances and the lobby can hold receptions and has a full service bar. The theatre has hosted a variety of performances including plays, comedies, auctions, dance performances and live concerts from classical to rock.

There is ferry service to Fire Island. 

The ferries leave Patchoque for trips to Watch Hill, part of the Fire Island National Seashore, and Davis Park, a summer residential community. 

Fire Island is a barrier beach with Atlantic Ocean waves beating against beautiful white sand. It is all just a ferry ride away. Patchoque also has the bay and waterfront marinas and piers that extend into the Great South Bay. 

You can spend the day fishing or swimming in the bay or sit and watch the boats go by on the Patchogue River.

Transportation is available and convenient.

 The Long Island Railroad stops at the Patchoque Station on its Babylon Line. 

• By car, take the Long Island Expressway to exit 63, North Ocean Ave. and travel south about 4 miles. There are public scheduled buses throughout Suffolk County and private taxi service too.
  
• Patchoque children attend the Patchogue-Medford School District. The village also has two colleges, St. Joseph's and the Briarcliff Colleges. It is a family community and dedicated to educating the children of the community.

Patchogue Parade

We went to see the Patchogue Christmas Parade last night!

Boats are decorated for the holidays and float up the Patchogue River with Santa in the last boat.

Grucci Fireworks were an added bonus!

Wonderful!

There were some great entries and it seemed that everyone had fun.

People were getting into the holiday spirit!

The Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport...

A completely renovated and lovely mansion that serves lunch and dinner, caters parties, and has rooms for guests.

It is a must see for anyone who is traveling out east.

Fly-fishing on Long Island

Small lakes in many Long Island communities are stocked with fish, as of April 1st. It was cold today, but we went fishing. Thermals, sweat-pants, and sweaters under the waders and you would think it was summer! Yeah, right!

This is West Lake in Patchoque...Private home and the water tower do give a different take on fishing. It's not as quiet or picturesque as Connetquot State Park, but pretty, just the same... We got the rods wet and checked our equipment for this type of fishing.

An osprey at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum.

We watched this guy for a long time and saw him meet his nesting partner in the large chimney of the estate. We'll be going back often to catch the arrival of the new chicks. So close to people, this is going to be a show I don't want to miss!

Watch Hill on Fire Island

This is part of the National Seashore and there is ferry service from Patchoque.

In this building, there is an educational nature center and don't forget the walk over the dunes to see and swim in the ocean!

It's a great family beach and there are boat slips for boaters, for day visits or over-night!

There are walking trails, barbeque grills and camping possibilities.

Watch Hill, Fire Island

Beautiful day on Fire Island.

This is a walkway to Watch Hill, which is part of the National Seashore. There is ferry service to this park and nature trails to walk, complete with wild life and a visitor center.

Of course, the nature center is closed this time of year and the ferry is not in service .

We walked along the beach to reach this area.

Try to get here next year for a visit. Bring the kids!

Patchogue Fireworks

Fireworks over the Great South Bay.

Beautiful night for a "picnic-on-the-boat" dinner of chicken and wine...while we watch the sun go down and the Fireworks begin.

Fireworks started at 9:30. In this photo, you can see just one boat in the light of the fireworks but the horizon is filled with lights from boaters.

It was a beautiful night and Patchogue did it right!

Fireworks in Patchogue

Last night the town of Patchogue had a fireworks display over the Great South Bay.

They were the Grucci fireworks which around here is pretty special.

Their firework display is top class and spectacular. Grucci is a family run business, a Long Island institution and one of the best. They are the company that does the fireworks for the 4th of July, Macy's display. They are very well known and were right here in Patchoque. My friends and I and my husband went out on their boat to watch. We had a great time. Here are some of the photos...
