Bryan's Bridge, Sayville

Bryan's Bridge

It has taken a long time, but the bridge construction is finally finished.
The photo above is the old bridge. The area was flooding, the road was uneven.
Cement was crumbling and water was eroding the supporting structure.
There was debris under the bridge too, as many kayak and canoe users found out.

After almost two years, the work is done. The bridge was raised, drainage was added.
A new road surface is now in place. It was a big job involving cranes and heavy machinery.
Living in the area, it became inconvenient to drive that way, but it's over and done!
I hope the people who decorated the bridge (Sayville Garden Club?) each December, do so again.

parking by the bay

parking by the bay by Alida's Photos
parking by the bay, a photo by Alida's Photos on Flickr.

There is something so different about the air once Labor Day arrives. The sky has less haze and more fluffy clouds. The coolness in the air has that almost autumn feel. It is one of the best times on Long Island!

The Grange, Sayville

The Grange Buildings, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

The bare trees create shadows on the Grange buildings in Sayville.
We have our first real taste of winter as the temperature drops to the 30s. Brrrr.........Get out those hats, gloves and scarves!

Sayville, Long Island

There is something so pretty about a leaf-covered ground in autumn....
...everything orange, red and brown.
This photo was taken in a park in Sayville, near the bay. Not many people here on a cool autumn morning, except for the dog walkers and joggers.

icy shore in Sayville

icy shore in Sayville, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

The icy shore in Sayville, Long Island, with the partially frozen Great South Bay.
We walked along the beach today. It didn't seem to be too cold, yet the bay was frozen for quite some way out into the center. No ice boats visible but I will check again, later on this week. Stay tuned......

An Angel in Sayville

Some cemeteries, the older ones, have beautiful statues as monuments to the deceased.
It's not done that way any longer, probably due to the cost of headstones.
One frequent photo opportunity for many photographers is to visit historical cemeteries, looking for those classic monuments....angels, saints and crosses.
This is just one very pretty, though weathered, angel for the "Winter" family in Sayville.
