Long Island Woman
Recently retired from teaching, married, active and enjoying life. I feel very fortunate to have so much but it was not just luck. Hard work and making the right decisions throughout life certainly helped. I do count my blessings though. To paraphrase something from Bob Dylan' book, Chronicles: His father said to him "Be thankful for the things that you don't get, that you don't want." So true!

Sunset on Brown's River, Sayville

Sunset on the canal...It was a calm evening and I was sitting on the boat, watching the birds float to the island (on the right). The daytime breezes had stopped and I watched as the light disappeared behind the mainland. The red, yellow sunset light reflected on the bulheading across the canal. The end to another perfect day....

Dockside Outfitters
There is a new business in town!
I thought I would mention it since my husband and I stopped in the other day.
As we were walking in Sayville, we came across a new business in the Stein's Marina building.
Dockside Outfitters
They have: Fresh and Frozen Bait for fishing
Tackle and Marine Supplies
Canoe and Kayak Rentals
Hand Tied Flies for fly-fishing
And they have a 24 hour live bait vending machine for those early fishermen!
They seem like really nice people, situated right on the river in Sayville at 23 River Road
In the big white Stein's building, north of the ferries.
Call for info: 631-337-1600
Another part of the business is a Pumpout Service.
They have a boat and a truck that will come to your boat to pump out the head.
There is no excuse for polluting the bay...and it is against the law.
Call 631-645-8356 or VHF Channel 14
Stop in to say "Hi!" to the new local businessmen.

A writing assignment
I've had this blog for almost one year now.
You can see the number of visitors on my sidebar.
I never thought I would see that many visitors.
It has brought some success and a great feeling of accomplishment.
More than once I was contacted by people who were interested in something I've said or a photo I've posted. They've left comments and contacted me by email.
I've made "friends" from all over the world....really, all over the entire globe!
Well, I recently was contacted by a New York City Real Estate Company.
They would like me to write about Long Island for their new growth in the Long Island market. Of course I accepted!

Sunday Sailing
It was a beautiful, sunny, just about perfect, day.
I needed my jacket but the gentle wind pushed the boat at a good speed.
We had something to eat at the Riverview Restaurant, on the water and then sailed back home.
Not bad for a day with no plans!

Boat leaving the river....The two channel markers bring boats into the Great South Bay. Blue sky and calm waters make it a perfect day to take the boat out for a test run. Let's make sure the engine works, the electronics are in proper order, we have lines to tie up somewhere, life jackets and other safety equipment are easily available. We're ready! Let's go!

An excellent place to buy special plants for the garden.
This is not the usual nursery, but a collection of unusual and difficult to find plants.
It is not far from the Tanger Mall in Riverhead, so next time you are out in the area, take a look! One section contains "native" Long Island plants!
There is an assortment of beautiful pots and containers for planting.
Bring your lunch. There are a few areas where you can sit, eat and enjoy the plants and flowers. It is located right by the river with shade trees and a lily pond.
