Seagulls and the Great South Bay

Beautiful day and the seagulls are flying over the bay. Every so often they dive and crash into the water for a fish or something to eat.
It is so nice to see them react to the natural foods in their environment...the hunters.
Too often we see them flocked around a dumpster or someone's garbage.
The bay is so peaceful with birds flying and catching fish, the smell of salt air and the sound of the waves on the shore.... traffic is just a distant sound.

Two Seasons on Long Island

The Two Seasons
Long Island, New York has all four seasons. There is a change in seasons.
Above are two photos of the same tree, town of Sayville, by the bay.
Great South Bay.
The bare tree was photographed in early March. Still winter.
The other photo is recent. Taken yesterday, it shows this tree in early spring.
The winters are cold and summers hot. It rains in the spring and the fall is filled with color.
I love living here. People often ask me, now that I've retired, "Where will you move?"
I just tell them I'm staying here, on Long Island. I love it!
The summers and winters do not have the extreme temperature changes that are seen in other parts of the country. One reason is because we are surrounded by water.
The water is what keeps us "temperate" and I'm not leaving!

Even this tiny ant is enjoying the flowers.

Flowering Trees

Wonderful time on Long Island...spring.
Trees and plants are flowering now.
We also get rainy days...like this weekend...non-stop rain!
The positive side to all of this, is that the plants and trees need so much water before the summer heat. We'll take it!

New York City

This is a memorial to the fire-fighters that died in the attacks of September 11, 2001.
It is posted on the side of a fire house on 8th Ave.

Street artist are all around, and for just a few dollars will make a charcoal sketch of you.

Hans Christian Andersen in Central Park.

Below is a photo of 5th Ave with it's containers yellow and orange of tulips.

We had a wonderful day on Saturday in the city...you know I mean New York City.
That's what we Long Islanders say..."the city" when we talk about going into Manhattan.
We saw, "The Pajama Game" with Harry Connick, Jr.
Excellent show, great music, funny... a wonderful, entertaining play.
We walked along 5th Ave and Park Ave and took a stroll through Central Park.
Lots to see in the park, including the flowering trees, this time of year.
All in all, it was a perfect day!

Daffodils...Always a sign that spring is here.

Last summer....I guess you can tell I'm dreaming of the beach.

April 11th, at the beach on Fire Island. Still too cold for a bathing suit!

A photo from last summer. Definitely Long Island. The Great South Bay in summer. Nothing can beat it!

The Island of Capri, as we leave on the boat to return to Sorrento.

Inside a church dome...very high and beautiful!

Very poorly done statue in the square of Uffizi Plaza in Florence.

Many cities and towns have clothes lines right outside the windows, even on the main streets!

Motocycles are a very common sight in Italy. With the price of gas so high, many people have bikes or scooters, even "little old ladies"!

A distant city on the mountain, sunset and the rooftops of Florence...Just beautiful!

Ponte Vecchio, Florence, Italy

Arno River, Florence...
This bridge is the Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), the only one not bombed during WW2 by Germany.
It is lined with shops and offices and is a busy part of the city.

Pigeons everywhere!

Masks are hand made in Venice. Years ago the city was known for its parties where people attended in disguise.

Gondolier in Venice. The building are a beautiful color, but very old. There is water damage everywhere...but it's beautiful!

The town of Siena, Italy. A medieval town on a hilltop. Each summer there is a horse race in the center of town.
