This lighthouse is seen while on the Staten Island ferry.

Actually considered part of New Jersey, you can pass this sailing from lower Manhattan to Staten Island.

The gantry cranes you see in the background are in New Jersey.

NY Stock Exchange

NY Stock Exchange, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

Washington statue at Federal Hall and the NY Stock Exchange, Wall Street

Our walk through lower Manhattan took us through the Wall Street area and the level of security was extraordinary. I have not been there in years and it has changed drastically. Every car was stopped and searched and there were police and security guards on every block.
I was glad to see this level of security.

Ground Zero

Ground Zero, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

My birthday gift was a night in the Millennium Hotel overlooking Ground Zero. This was the view, taken with a fisheye lens.
We spent two days walking around lower Manhattan and photographing just about everything!

We went to the Coney Island Mermaid Parade yesterday. Great costumes and lots of fun!
This group was protesting the BP oil spill. They were painted in the BP colors of green and yellow and spilled dark corn syrup all over their bodies pretending it was oil.

Went out to Westhampton today, just to take some photos. When we got there, the sun went behind the clouds and it changed our focus.

female Northern Cardinal

female cardinal, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

I love this time of year.
The birds are very active with new little ones who are learning to fly.
This photo was taken in my front yard, near a bird feeder.
I think she's looking at me!
What do you think?

My Brothers, 1970s

Brothers, 1970s, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

Looking through some older photos for a June idea, I noticed that this was taken in June.
June 1971!
My two brothers, almost 40 years ago.
I was so proud and thought they were the best looking guys in our Brooklyn neighborhood.
(I scanned the photo and blurred out the background in Photoshop.)
They are still healthy and good-looking although much older....
and you know how we change as we get older!

Hometown Huntington

Exclusive Premiere
Monday, June 7th at 8 pm on WLIW21
Visit wliw.org/huntington for more information.

~~~
From the WLIW website:
There is no place like Huntington. With its harbor villages and picturesque towns it has long been a haven for residents and tourists, ripe with glorious beaches, abundant fishing and a sense of place that embraces both the quintessential Main Street and the height of sophisticated culture. A place where Gold Coast mansions were matched in riches by the cherished storybook childhoods and close-knit communities of post-World War II suburbia. If you were lucky enough to grow up here, you knew Freddie the Shoemaker and Tony the Fruit Man, not faceless chains; the joy of a burger served hot off the train at Hamburger Choo-Choo; and many other special shared memories. WLIW21’s new productionHometown Huntington brings together past and present residents, including Tony Award-winner Patti LuPone, actor Ralph Macchio, cartoonist Bunny Hoest (The Lockhorns), historians, and renowned Huntington families like the Finnegans and Sammis, plus home movies, photos and letters to celebrate a place rich in history, natural beauty and charm. Hosted and narrated by Lloyd Harbor resident Bernadette Castro.
