Shipwrecked on Fire Island

shipwrecked sand, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

A sailboat washed ashore on Fire Island at the Water Island beach.

It became grounded last week in the fog. A crew of workers has been digging out the keel but it is slow going. When the tide comes up the boat gets buried further into the sand.

Your right, Alida. It looks like it has been buried deeper. I think they would need some tugboats offshore to perhaps pull it off into the ocean but I really do not know how this really would be handled myself. By the way, nice shots as always.

Great series...

I'd like to know how this happened. That looks like a pretty high tech boat. I'm assuming the crew is skilled accordingly. How did they let themselves get that close to shore?

That's what happens. It's going to be very difficult to pull that boat off the beach.
