stone and blue

stone and blue, originally uploaded by Alida's Photos.

The potted plants seem to be doing very well at my place.
Cooler temperatures are keeping them green and not in need of frequent watering.
As the weather gets colder, some plants will need to be brought into the house but most annuals will be discarded.
It seems like such a waste, but that is the price to pay for the continuous color of annuals.

The flowers seem to be swimming in a sea of blue!

One can't escape a certain wistfulness, this time of the year, when summer's bounty is still around us, yet the shorter days and the cooler nights are heralding an end to the warm season. I lived in Washington DC before I moved to Vienna 3 years ago, and I remember covering my potted impatients when a single night of early frosts threatened to wipe them out prematurely overnight.

Thank you for your kind comment on my blog. I have come to love my new hometown, and good to hear that you enjoyed your visit here!

This blog, Long Island Woman, is where I write in addition to posting photos.

My other blogs are really just photoblogs.

Thanks for the visits and you comments!

Just put them in the compost pile.

So glad you visited my flickr site and made comments. Mine cannot begin to compete with yours. What wonderful photos you take! And how wonderful to be able to travel as you have. I have visited Europe once, when my youngest was teaching for a year in Hungary.
Your pictures of LI make me feel nostalgic. We lived in Massapequa Pk
